The transition to inventor in hindsight has really just been a natural extension of my many years as an Occupational Therapist . As clinicians we are always looking to maximise performance of any any given capacity. The idea to reset and go back to scratch with the razor design came about purely by accident but was informed by my life long work habits.
After forgetting to pack my razor on holiday, I managed to find a lone refill cartridge floating in the bottom of my toiletries bag! Holding it along my first and second fingers and swiping it on my legs I straight away realised this was a much easier way to shave and could easily see why - with my wrist now in the commonly understood functional position.
Why wasn't this already in the market? Why had the original stick razor design not been readdressed when the task of shaving expanded?
Any health practitioner has always understood that when the wrist operates within its mid-range position, the muscles surrounding the joint are believed to have optimal length-tension relationships, which allows improved force generation and overall dexterity and control.
Using a stick razor on the face works well as the wrist is generally in the functional position – or operating within the mid range position . But look what happens when you then shave for example your legs (Fig 1) The task of shaving your legs and other areas of your body puts your hand and wrist in a completely different position. Often placing muscles at full stretch which equal less control and dexterity including less force moderation. In the context of shaving, where you are dragging a sharp blade directly across your skin sometimes over bony or recessed areas - the position of the hand and wrist is super important.

By designing the Reset Razor to place the hand and wrist in a functional position, (Fig 2) the length-tension relationships of the muscles are optimized. By maintaining a mid-range position during activities there is significantly improved coordination and precision as the muscles can work synergistically resulting in a more efficient and comfortable shaving experience. More control over the razor's movements, results in smoother and more accurate shaving strokes.
After working on the design with my nephew who at the time was completing a product design degree - we secured the appropriate patents and attempted to licence the concept with a working design to the major and minor player's in the shaving industry. It just seemed so obvious to us that this was a better way to body shave. Perhaps naively we were disappointed when no company was prepared to invest in this idea.
However we just couldn't let it go. The fact that the stick razor had never been properly readdressed when shaving expanded was just too irksome to ignore. So despite many challenges we made the decision to bring it to market ourselves.
So finally we are excited to bring you a complete shift in design with our reset razor - designed to address the unique ergonomic demands of body shaving, without undermining the value of stick razors for facial grooming.
